Open-air museum, Bardejov Spa

On the outskirts of Bardejovské Kúpele in the northeast of Slovakia stands the Museum of Folk Architecture - the oldest open-air museum in Slovakia. In the lap of beautiful nature, in close proximity to the well-known Bardejov Spa, not far from Bardejov, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you will find an oasis of peace, history and a return to the times of a traditional village from the 19th and the first half of the 20th century.

The first Slovak exposition of the open-air museum was opened to the public in 1965 in Bardejovské Kúpele. At present it consists of almost 24 exhibition objects of traditional folk architecture from the area of upper Šariš and from the north-eastern Zemplín region.

The dominant feature of the open-air museum are two wooden churches brought from the village of Zboj and from the nearby village of Mikulášová, which are a great example of sacral architecture.

In the open-air museum you will also find residential log houses or buildings with technical equipment: blacksmith's cellar, granaries, fruit drying room, well and barns.

The most valuable exhibits:

  • unikátne vrtné zariadenie na výrobu drevených vodovodných rúr na vodný pohon, 18. stor.
  • technické zariadenie na domácku výrobu súkna - valcha z Livova, 1888 a časť 1948

The last entry to the exhibition is 30 minutes before the end of opening hours. For pre-announced groups of visitors, the open-air museum can also be accessed between 8.00 and 10.00 am.

A visit to the museum is made more enjoyable by organised events, such as the Crafts Day, Afternoon with Folklore, Pottery Sunday, Show of Ruthenian and Sharis folklore, etc.

Access: The open-air museum is located in the western part of the Bardejov Spa area.
