Belianske Tatras form a distinctive 14 km-long limestone ridge, stretching in the east-west direction, lying almost perpendicular to the main ridge of the High Tatras.

The point of contact of these geologically different mountains is the saddle Kopské sedlo. Činnosť ľadovcov z pôvodného zaľadnenia Tatier Belianske Tatry takmer nepoznačila. Nenájdeme tu pre susedné horstvo tak charakteristické morény, skalné prahy, terasy, či mohutné rázsochy. Pozornosť však upúta krása vápencových a dolomitových stien so strmými trávnatými svahmi a bohatou vegetáciou.

Havran a Vidla

One of the dominant features of the distinctive western part of the main ridge (the saddle Široké sedlo) is Ždiarska vidla. . The highest peak Havran (Raven) (2,151.5 meters above sea level) is, like other peaks, not accessible to tourists.

The mountains form an important karst area. From a number of caves, only Belianska cave is accessible to tourists above the village of Tatranská Kotlina. The village is a great starting point for a trip to the only mountain cottage in the Belianske Tatras, the Cottage Plesnivec (1,290 m) below the hill Bujačí vrch (Bull’s Hill).

Even though the mountain range lack mountain lakes, it is considered the most beautiful and naturally richest part of the Tatras. The large part of the Belianske Tatras has been closed to the public since 1978 following the decision of TANAP’s administrative body. The main reason is the protection of rare species of flora and fauna and the natural environment of this part of the national park.

The peripheral valleys of Zadné Mědodoly, Predné Mědodoly and they valley Dolina Siedmich prameňov (The Valley of Seven Streams) are open to tourists. In 1993, the one-way educational nature trail through the valley Monková dolina was opened. The trail connects the village of Ždiar with the saddles Široké sedlo and Kopský sedlo.
