Mineral Springs Trail
In the region of northern Spiš and Pieniny there is a unique hiking trail called MINERAL SPRINGS TRAIL. The region is extremely rich in mineral springs. In a relatively small area, there are more than 80 of them and each has different therapeutic effects.
The hiking trail connects 12 mineral springs throughout the region. It includes the most important, as well as also lesser-known springs. Walking the trail, tourists can get to know, taste and learn about various attractions located nearby. At the same time, hikers can explore the surrounding nature where they will find many natural and cultural attractions. The entire trail is 100 kilometers long.

Each spring has a different mineral composition and so targets different health problems. Well-known springs include Ľubovnianka spring with the highest magnesium content in Slovakia, Sulínka spring that is known for treating stomach problems or springs in Vyšné Ružbachy that have a positive effect on the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
Forbasy – Ščava spring
Natural carbonic mineral spring containing Na, Ca, Mg, Fe, Mn. The water is used in cleansing procedures. The water is recommended for liver and pancreatic diseases, anorexia, chronic stomach problems and inflammation of the kidneys, as well as for the prevention of calcium deficiency.

Ľubovňa Spa – Andrej spring
Natural water with medium content of minerals boasts with the highest content of natural magnesium (Mg) in Slovakia. Magnesium is a mineral that has a beneficial effect on the heart and muscular system. Water also contains Ca, Na, Si. The water is recommended for stomach diseases, diseases of intestines, kidneys, liver, respiratory and urinary tract problems, nervous disorders and problems of women’s reproductive organs. The water works well for those suffering from extreme exhaustion. The first spa houses stood here already in 1887.
Lacková – Prameň pod Kalváriou spring
Natural water with low content of minerals contains especially Ca and C. The water helps treat, among other things, anorexia, calcium deficiency, chronic inflammation of the respiratory tract, kidneys and ureters, etc.
Legnava – Ščava spring
Natural water with medium content of minerals contains Ca, Mg, Fe and C. In terms of quality, it is one of the best waters in the region. That is why the area around the spring (and partially also thanks to its fabulous nature) was selected as a recreational area. Water has a positive effect on the function of the heart muscle and muscles of the musculoskeletal system. Regular drinking of this water has a positive effect on the body and helps in the treatment of anorexia or urinary stones.
Hniezdne – Švabľovka spring
Natural water with low content of minerals contains S, C and Ca. At these sulfur springs, spa was opened in the 19th century. Sadly, these were destroyed during World War II. In the spa, there were 15 baths in which water was heated. The spa provided simple but effective treatments of rheumatic diseases.
Bajerovce – Voňačka spring
Natural water with low content of minerals contains C, Ca and S. Regular drinking of this water has a positive effect on digestion and regular warm baths counteract rheumatism. That is why in the past, the locals thought of opening a spa house with balneotherapy using the local mud. The spring is located about 100 m from the information board in the natural reserve Valalská voda.

Vyšné Ružbachy – Love & Oblivion spring
The water with low content of minerals contains hydrocarbon, calcium-magnesium and carbon. The water helps with abdominal and intestinal problems, problems with tonsils and headaches. It is also helpful in the treatment of rheumatic, digestive, skin, pulmonary and cardiovascular diseases.
Hraničné – Ščava spring
Natural water with low content of minerals contains Na, Ca, Mg, C and N. It is suitable for everyday drinking as it helps cleansing the body and treat chronic diseases of the digestive tract, kidneys, liver and pancreas. The water also relieves joint, back and neck pain.
Sulín – Sulinka spring
Natural mineral water containing Na, Mg, Ca, Li and natural CO2. The water helps treat anemia, gastric and intestinal catarrh, diabetes (Diabetes melitus) and gout (Arthritis urica). Before World War I, it was exported to several countries such as Dalmatia, Transylvania, the USA and Canada. Using rafts, it was transported as far as Polish ports in the Baltics. Its unique properties and quality were loved by the Austrian Empress Elizabeth of Bavaria (known as Sissi), whose portrait is still on the labels of the bottles. She always had a bottle of Sulinka by her side.

Litmanová – Spring of St. John the Baptist Water is an element given great power by the Creator himself - the power of life but also of death. Without water, the Earth would be just a dry desert, a land of hunger and thirst, where people and animals would face certain death. Water is invigorating - life is not possible without it, yet other times it is terrifying. However, it always purifies. Water has penetrated deeply into our everyday lives and is omnipresent in the history of human salvation. It is not only a symbol of physical purity (as we wash ourselves with it), but also of moral purity, too. The spring of water is a symbolic of a rebirth – I can drown my old life, my sins but also my sickness and weakness in water. Anyone who uses water in faith can experience the miracle of God's healing touch. May the water from the fountain of St. John the Baptist be a source of rebirth and renewal in the Holy Spirit.
