The wooden Greek Catholic Church of St. George, Jalová
The village of Jalová is located near the town of Snina. The wooden church of St. George can be found in the middle of the village and although it lies just a short distance from the road, it is hidden behind the buildings.
The Church of St. George is rather a small building. Nevertheless, at the time of its construction, it met the needs of the local residents. The temple was constructed using logs, it has stone foundations and two turrets with metal three-armed crosses.
The wooden church in Jalová is one of the churches that were plastered and whitewashed. In 2002, it underwent extensive repairs and was completely restored, but no longer plastered.
Every Sunday and during the holidays, a liturgy is held in the temple on the hill. Local worshippers follow the Julian calendar here. The liturgical language is Slovak and Church Slavonic. According to the administrator, only about ten people actually attend the masses. Jalová’s population is small – no more than 100 inhabitants.
