The wooden Greek Catholic Church of St. Basil the Great, Krajné Čierno
The Church of St. Basil the Great was built in 1730 in the village of Krajné Čierno and it was dedicated to one of the most important saints of Greek Catholic Church.
The temple is built on stone foundations. As is usual in such churches, it is divided into three-parts with three-armed crosses on top of each tower. In the tower there is a bell from 1876.
The wooden church of St. Basil the Great hides a beautiful atypical iconostasis with four panels featuring icons from the 17th century - from the time of the church’s construction. Its rarest icon is the icon of Deposition from the Cross from the 17th century located on a table in the shrine.
As the wooden church in Krajné Čierny was listed as one of the 100 most endangered monuments in the world, efforts were made between 2000 and 2004 to obtain funding for much needed repairs. The renovation of the iconostasis took place in the years 2000 - 2005
