Matysová kostolík

The wooden Greek Catholic Church of St. Michael, Matysová (Stará Ľubovňa)

The Church of St. Archangel Michal dates back from 1833. In 1979 it was transported to the museum of folk architecture under the Stará Ľubovňa Castle. After it was consecrated in 1990 again, services of the Eastern-rite Catholic Church are held here on important holy days.

In front of the entrance there is a cross (copy from 1912) with a carved relief featuring the symbols of the Passion. A larger relief protrudes from the roof. Originally, there were three bells in the main tower, but they were moved to the brick church in Matysová before the wooden church was transferred to the open-air museum.

The interior of the church is decorated with an iconostasis, which dates from the middle of the 18th century and comes from an older and smaller church. Some icons (St. Peter and Paul, St. Michael, Christ Pantocrator) are from the 17th century. In the altar part there is also a rare painting of the Mother of God which dates from 1693.
