The wooden Greek Catholic Church of the Protection of the Blessed Virgin, Nižný Komárnik
The temple was probably built in the middle of the 18th century (some sources state the year 1788).
During the World War I, it was severely damaged. Over the upcoming years, it was gradually removed from the site. The current wooden church was built in 1938 in the honor of the Blessed Virgin. At the end of the World War II, in 1944, the whole village was completely destroyed and the temple seriously damaged. After the end of the war in 1946, the church was repaired and other major repairs were carried out in the mid-1960s.
The wooden church in Nižný Komárnik is probably the only one in Slovakia that was renovated with the help of a professional architect.
The building was built from logs while the foundations are from stone.
The interesting thing about the temple is that it has two entrances, one on the south side directly to the sanctuary and one on the west side to the vestibule
