Originally a Greek Catholic wooden church – Church of the Protection of the Blessed Virgin, Varadka
The wooden Church of the Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which is a national cultural monument, has been decorating the village of Varadka since the 18th century.
During the World War I it was one of the many buildings that were destroyed during the fights. However, in 1924, the inhabitants of the village built a new temple on the same site, seated in the stone foundations.
Although it is not made entirely of wood and has a tin roof, it is still considered one of the most beautiful wooden churches in the Bardejov district.
There are three bells in the temple’s tower. On the roof sits an original decorative Greek Catholic cross. The temple has relatively tall windows.
