Vyšná Polianka kostolík

The wooden Greek Catholic Church of St. Paraschev, Vyšná Polianka

The Greek Catholic Church of St. Paraschev in the picturesque village of Vyšná Polianka, north of the town of Bardejov, was built in 1919. A century before, in 1810, the original church was built in its place. During the World War I, however, the church was destroyed.

If you planned to see this temple only from the passing car, you will be disappointed as it is located in the cemetery behind the Orthodox temple.

Much like the current church, the old one was also consecrated to St. Paraschev. The architecture of the current church is much simpler and it is also smaller than the original one. Wood from the original temple was used for the construction of the new one. The tower is set in the vestibule. Originally, there were three bells, but now there are only two left.

The wooden church in Vyšná Polianka is one of the youngest wooden churches in the Eastern Slovakia and is also a national cultural monument. It still serves its purpose and services are being held here regularly.
