The wooden Church of St. Francis of Assisi, Hervartov
The Roman Catholic wooden Church of St. Francis of Assisi was built in the Gothic style at the end of the 15th century from red spruce. It is located on a small hill in the middle of the village of Hervartov in the Bardejov district. It entered the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2008.
While the exterior of the oldest wooden church on the Slovak side of the Carpathians remained unchanged, the interior underwent several alterations due to the Reformation movement, re-catholicization and the influence of the Baroque style. Geometrically shaped interior as well as scenes from the life of saints and morality scenes form a rich decoration of the church’s inner walls.

In the 1970s, the original murals from 1655 and 1805 were restored, and to this day, together with Gothic panel paintings, they belong to the most valuable parts of the church's interior.
In 1968, the church in this Slovak village with German origin was declared a national cultural monument. Together with other wooden churches of the Carpathian Arch, it was entered in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2008.
