Co-cathedral of St. Nicholas

The construction of the monumental parish church Co-cathedral of St. Nicolas was completed in 1515. The dominant feature of the interior of the sacral building is the main altar built at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries. Its authorship is attributed to the Prešov woodcarver Ján Weiss. The Co-cathedral of St. Nicholas has also two organs - big and small. The large organ, located in the western part of the temple, has 3,480 whistles and 29 bells. It was built in 1634 and is decorated with rich early Baroque ornaments.

Visitors to the Prešov co-cathedral will certainly enjoy the opportunity to climb the church tower, from which there is a beautiful view of the city of Prešov.

The historical center of Prešov

The historic center of Prešov is the ideal place for a nice walk with the family. Especially children will appreciate the Neptune Fountain, which was built by a Jewish merchant of the city as a thank you to the city for allowing him and his family to settle and do business in Prešov. One of the attractions in the center is a four-meter statue of a horse symbolizing the "horse people", as the people of Prešov are called.

Rákoczi Palace in Prešov

The most beautiful city palace of the Upper Austria-Hungary - such a noble title was given to this 16th century Renaissance building in the most lucrative location in Prešov. Its elegant architecture and beautiful sgraffito decorations are still the pride of Hlavná Street. It goes without any doubt that the Rákoczi Palace is one of the most beautiful Renaissance buildings in Slovakia.

Sigismund Rákoczi took care of the construction of the palace by rebuilding two burgher houses. The current form of the building, defined mainly by the façade with windows in the arches, topped by an unmissable attic, dates back to the 17th century (renovation in the late Renaissance style).

National Cultural Monument Solivar

Solivar in Prešov is a national cultural monument, one of the most important technical monuments in Slovakia. It is a unique complex of technical objects for pumping and cooking salt from brine, dating back to the 17th century. The flooding of mines with groundwater in 1752 required new technology. The mine turned into an underground salt lake. This required previously unused technology – brine pumping in leather bellows using a horse mill driven by horses or oxen.

A visit to Solivar is an experience that will transport visitors to a time when Prešov’s salt was worth more than gold...

Calvary in Prešov

The Calvary above the city of Prešov is a Baroque complex with beautiful views and valuable interiors. In the past, it was considered the second most beautiful Calvary in Austria-Hungary (after the Calvary in Banská Štiavnica). In 1836, catacombs were built under the church, serving as a tomb for priests. Their wall with the entrance portal creates the illusion of a castle wall when viewed from the city.
