Rysy peak (High Tatras)

Rysy peak (2,499 m) is the border peak between Slovakia and Poland in the main ridge of the High Tatras. Rysy peak is one of the most visited peaks of the Tatra Mountains.

Rysy has three peaks:

  • middle (main) (2,503 meters above sea level)
  • northwest (2 498,7 meters above sea level)
  • southeast (2 473 meters above sea level, lowest) 

Because of the magnificent view, Rysy was promoted before the World War I as "Hungarian Rigi” or “Tatra’s Rigi". 

Interesing facts:

Northwest peak also serves as a border pedestrian crossing (the red mark trail) with Poland. It is open during the summer tourist season. 

On the slopes of Rysy is the highest mountain cottage in the Tatras and Slovakia, Cottage under Rysy (2,250 meters above sea level).
