Sabinov attracts many tourists from all over the world thanks to the film Obchod na korze (The Shop on Main Street), which was shot in this city.

Oscar city

In April 1966, director Ján Kadár was awarded the Oscar for this film in Los Angeles. The movie also inspired a project, Chodník Obchod na Korze (The Shop on Main Street Trail) - if you walk through the city, you will find QR codes on 11 boards, which link you to a specific passage from the film shot at the given place. Since 2016, you can also find a statue of the Oscar in Sabinov, which was installed in the city to commemorate the 50th anniversary of receiving the prestigious award.

The Altar Stone, Lysá

When in Drienica, be sure to hike to Lysá. In addition to beautiful nature, you can admire a true natural wonder – the Altar Stone. The Altar Stone is a huge boulder located east of the Lysá peak near the green-marked hiking trail. The boulder is a testimony of the cult customs of our ancestors. After a day full of hiking you can treat yourself to a tasty coffee or lunch at the Hotel Javorná.

The Statue of Sabína, Sabinov

Since 2014, the center has been decorated with the statue of Sabina, which reminds the locals of the well-known legend of one brave girl.

Sleeping monk, Kamenica

The rock formation Sleeping Monk near the village of Kamenica is a popular place for trips. From afar, it attracts attention with its unusual shape resembling a figure of a lying monk.

There are also several fissure caves in the peak classified as natural monuments. A survey of three caves with a total length of 98 meters was carried out. One of them, Perunová Cave, with a length of 17 meters, is passable from the both sides.  

There are several springs around the peak. One of them opens through a pipe to a tastefully arranged car park called Monk’s spring.

The unusual and unique shape of the peak resembles a reclining 150 meters long figure. According to experts, this peak was created gradually in ancient times.

Kamenický Castle

The ruins of Kamenický Castle lie on a limestone cliff in the Čergov Mountains. The castle was built in 1248. It was owned by several owners and withstood raids of enemies. Nevertheless, it fell into disrepair and completely “disappeared” by 1556. Today, thanks to the renewal efforts, it is becoming alive again.

Fortunately, several walls from the castle remained. The northern wall of the eastern palace is one of the best-preserved parts. The castle is being restored and its preservation is taken care of by the Civic Association Kamenná veža.
