Wooden Church of the Immaculate Conception, Starý Smokovec
Not only the furthest parts of Slovakia can boast of wooden churches, several of them can be found in other parts of our country, too. The most famous of these churches is the Church of the Immaculate Conception. The church is located in the center of Starý Smokovec, just a short walk from the lower station of the funicular leading to the ridge.
The church is a real construction gem. It was built in 1888 in the alpine style. The church is wooden, but its walls are filled with masonry. The building with richly carved and decorated gables perfectly blends in with the surrounding environment. The church is considered one of the most beautiful cultural monuments in the High Tatras.
