Dukla Battlefield and Monument
The Memorial to the Czechoslovak Army at Dukla is a national cultural monument commemorating the joint operation of Soviet and Czecho-Slovak troops at the battle of the Dukla Pass, which took place here in the autumn of 1944.
This natural area is one of the most visited sites in the region. It is located near the border-crossing point to Poland – Vyšný Komárnik – and is a reminder of the Carpathian-Dukla military operation that took place here in the autumn of 1944. More than 60 thousand Soviet and Czechoslovak soldiers fell here in the fighting.
The memorial, 28 metres high, was built in 1949. It is incorporated into a military cemetery, which is intersected by a colonnade with bronze plaques bearing the names of 1,265 fallen members of the 1st Czechoslovak Army Corps.
