Overview of nominated products for the Best in Tourism of the Prešov Region 2018 award - in the category BEST PRODUCT. The organiser of the award is KOCR North-East of Slovakia. Nominations were sent to the organizers by the professional and general public until 30 November 2018.
From the nominated products, one winner will be selected by the public in an online vote from 14 December 2018 to 13 January 2019 (inclusive) at www.severovychod.sk. At the same time, the nominations of the BEST products will also be judged by an expert jury, which will also select the winner(s) of the category.
NOMINATED PRODUCTS 2018:
TATRY ICE MASTER 2018
Place, location of the product: Hrebienok
The icy beauty has its place. In 2018, Hrebienok became the place where the 6th edition of the traditional TATRY ICE MASTER event took place. During For three days, ice sculptors from ten countries breathed life into 50 tons of ice and turned them into 40 unique ice sculptures.
During the event, sculptors and artists worked with 50 tons of ice to work on various motifs and themes that will infuse the impressive sculptures. On the first day, the sculptors had a free style. On the second and third days of the event, the sculptors stuck to the themes: the land where I come from and the world's flora and fauna. The event also included a concert by singer Jana Kirschner and ice-fire show, which attracted as every year a large number of curious tourists.
MAKETA MEDVEDIEHO BRLOHA - Museum of TANAP, State Forests of TANAP

The model of the bear's den has been located in the vestibule of the TANAP Museum in Tatranská Lomnica since autumn 2017. It illustrates how it can look like the real lair of our biggest beast. The experience of the model is greatly enhanced by the fact that the visitor can enter the dens to enter and listen to the bear's vocal expressions. Inside the den is a preparation of a bear cub, on the surface there are preparations of adult bears and other smaller animals. The surface and interior of the model is a faithful imitation of real dens. The maquette has found great response from visitors, especially for families with children. The TANAP Museum introduces visitors to the character of the Tatra nature, its protection and the history of the Tatra Mountains. It is one of the most visited museums of its kind in Slovakia - around 30 000 visitors a year. The exhibition part of the museum is divided into natural history, nature conservation, history and ethnography.
CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING AREA ON ŠTRBSKÉ PLESO

Štrbské Pleso with its natural features, sport running history and nowadays also technical equipment is one of the top winter sports centres in Slovakia, especially cross-country skiing. Early of 2018 winter marking of the tracks and purchase of another Pisten Bully 400 snow tracked vehicle for grooming of the tracks. Throughout the winter season, a service was in operation directly at the cross-country ski trails, consisting of ski and ski equipment rental, refreshments, and a ski school. Groomed and in some sections artificially snow-covered trails for both classic and free technique Served free of charge for the general public. In 2018, additional changing rooms for athletes, coaches, new garages for equipment were added in the cross-country skiing area, parking facilities for the runners themselves were improved and the information service for the operation of cross-country skiing tracks was improved (www.strbskpleso.sk, www.abl.sk ).
During the modification of cross-country skiing trails on Štrbské Pleso, which is currently 19.8 km, has in recent years made a great piece of workto meet demanding criteria for obtaining the FIS World Ski Federation certificate for holding international cross-country skiing events. In addition to the traditional 5/4/3,5,/2,5 and 2 km long cross-country tracks, a track for beginners and children (0.7 km), a cross country track (0.5 km) and a sprinter's track (1.6 km) have been created, which is situated close to the sports complex so that the spectators can have the greatest possible experience of the race course.
GOLDEN THERAPY SPA, Plaza Beach Resort Prešov

Plaza Beach Resort in Prešov has expanded its services with the Golden Therapy - Natural Spa wellness offer. Visitors can enjoy a relaxing swimming pool, sauna world, relaxation room and dry foot massage. In the sauna world you will find, in addition to Finnish, steam herbal and infrared, a salt sauna, which is an ideal environment for inhaling salt and for pleasant relaxation. Visitors can enjoy a moment to themselves and also try a relaxing massage. The new spa complements the hotel and restaurant services of the resort, which also attracts visitors to its Mediterranean-style swimming pool during the summer.
MEDICAL SINGLETRACK, Bardejov Spa

Bardejov Spa and the north-east of Slovakia are again more attractive for family holidays. In the spa and its surroundings, the third healing singletrack, this time designed for families with children and therefore called FAMILY singletrack. The name was given, like one of the previous ones, after the healing spring of the Bardejov Spa - Lekársky singletrack. Together with the climbing route Čerešenka and the downhill route Napoleon form 4610 m long set of cycle paths. The medical singletrack with its easy profile without obstacles is designed for whole cycling families. It starts at the upper end of the Oxygen track (by the waterworks) and rises smoothly above the spa. It goes gently downhill to the finish at the gazebo on the oxygen track. The singletrack is characterised by an aligned and shaped natural surface. Its profile is undemanding, with an average slope of up to 8 %. The singletrack features big banked turns and smooth terrain waves.
The medical singletrack starts at the upper end of the previously built Oxygen Track and climbs steadily above the baths to the gazebo. All trails are marked and can be used by the public for biking, outdoor exercise, hiking and walking. Read more
RESTORATION OF THE DONJON - SHARIS CASTLE
Place, location of the product: the Šariš castle
Šariš Castle is one of the largest medieval castles in Slovakia. Its total built-up area exceeds 4.5 ha. It is built on the Šarišský Hill - a conical andesite (570 m high) hill above the town of Veľký ŠaThey're ripping. Archaeological research has proved the settlement of the castle hill as early as the Neolithic, the Late Stone Age and the Younger Bronze Age (13th - 11th centuries BC). The fortification of the castle is preserved, including the battlements. After reconstruction of the original castle donjon, at a given place a 15-metre high observation tower was built, which became the pride of the castle. The reconstruction started last year, but due to its scale, the work continued during the summer of 2018. Many volunteers also joined in and thanks to them we can admire Šarišský hrad from the restored donjon with a royal view.
EXHIBITION THE WORLD OF DAY AGES - Manor House Hanušovce n. Topľou

The new archaeological exhibition The World of the Ancient Ages, which was inaugurated in the Hanušov manor house in the summer of 2018, introduces visitors to the life of people in the past. They will find rare archaeological finds from the Slovak-Polish border area. At the same time, the modified basement of the large manor house has been opened to the public. The chronological layout of the exhibition begins older stone age and ends with the modern age with treasures of coins from the 16th to 17th centuries. In the central part of the exposition there is an atypical wave-shaped system of showcases and information panels. At interactive whiteboardslocated at each showcase, the visitor can get acquainted with details about the settlement of the region in that period and about the selected exhibits.
Scenes with characteristic scenes situated around the perimeter of the exhibition hall are intended to strengthen the idea of life and death in the past. Basic orientation in the exposition is provided by the introductory panel with scene animations and their popularization performance. The exhibition also includes exhibition, educational and conference facilities for school visits and professionals. The exposition contains objects from the collections of the Regional Museum in Prešov and also from the Polish partner, the Podkarpackie Museum in Krosno.
