Fotografická súťaž Choď a foť 2020 zažila rekordný ročník

30. október 2020, Prešov – The winners of the eighth edition of the Go and Shoot photo competition are known. The jury selected the first three places in six categories from among 820 images captured in the Prešov region. Also this year, the prize was awarded Grand Prix and the Jury President's Prize. The photography competition from the Regional Tourism Organisation is gaining popularity every year.

New competition categories

New in this year's edition of the Go and Shoot competition were two new categories. In addition to the traditional Nature; Culture, Traditions and History; Sport and Leisure and Black & White, professional and amateur photographers could enter their works in the categories Man and region Architecture.

"We try to make the competition more attractive every year, so we decided to add two new categories to the 8th edition. Photographers in the category Man and Country captured people and their moments during everyday activities, work or relaxation. Quite surprisingly, another new category, Architecture, was the second strongest. In total, we have 113 images in this topic," says Martin Janoško, Executive Director of KOCR Northeast Slovakia.

Award Grand Prix goes this year to photographer Zuzana Hudáček, who with her picture entitled Tradition in the category Man and region, captured the atmosphere in Lendak in May following the release of measures related to the Covid-19 pandemic.

"This photo can be classified as reportage. I like to capture life as it is, without excessive stylization. In the photo you can see a woman working in a florist shop, fully preserving the Goral tradition with her daughter Anastasia. After the measures were relaxed, they took the opportunity to participate in the Holy Mass, as otherwise than in the traditional Highlander costume, with a new accessory - a veil," describes the process of capturing the moment of the winner.

World Jury

The quality of the images in the Go and Shoot competition is higher every year. This was also confirmed by the jury chairman Jano Štovka (MQEP), which this year assembled a jury of world-renowned photographers.

"This year we had an excellent composition of the jury, I intentionally made it from the best of the best, which is not decided by me, but by their world achievements in the field of photography and, importantly, all the jurors hold the highest photographic title awarded in Europe, the Master Qualified European Photographer (MQEP). That's why I want to thank my friends and colleagues Filip Kulishev, Ivan Canig, Martin Krystynek for their great reviews. Even though they are all busy with work, they took the time to support good photography. The evaluation is very subjective, because everyone has a different eye and different criteria, but we more or less always agree on the evaluation," describes the evaluation process of Štovka, who awarded the jury chairman's prize to a photograph in the category Sport and leisure activities called Boxing in Stropkov and its author Andrej Belovezcik.

Jury President's Award:

Andrej Belovežčík - Boxing in Stropkov (Stropkov)

"This photograph has a clear handwriting of photographers from this region of northern Šariš. It is a very well technically mastered image that looks more artistic than sports reportage and that is what disturbed me in a positive sense. Congratulations to the author for a great photo," adds Štovka, according to whom some of the photographs entered in Go and Shoot would not be lost in any world competition.

The strongest category in the Go and Shoot competition every year is the Nature. It was no different this year, when KOCR Northeast of Slovakia registered up to 373 competition photos. First place goes to the image Autumn Impression by Marian Kuric.

Another novelty in this edition is also the North-East of Slovakia award, granted by the Regional Tourism Organisation.

"In the KOCR team we have decided that we will also choose our favourite, for the first time Róbert Adam with his photo Vihorlatská zima can enjoy this prize," reveals Janoško.

In addition to the winners, the jury also selected the images included in the category Honorable mention (honorable mention). These and the winning photographs will make up the Go and Shoot opening.

"For the past years we have realized this opening in the premises of the Jonáš Záborský Theatre in Prešov in the first week of December. Due to the situation, the place and date of the opening are unknown for the time being. I believe that by December the measures will be at least partially relaxed and the situation will calm down," Janoško expressed his hope over the opening. "In the meantime, the public can view the winning images on our website, plus we're launching on our social media in November public vote for the most beautiful photo," Janoško concludes.

At the opening, the winners will receive diplomas and interesting prizes.

The Go and Shoot campaign will continue next year. Currently KOCR Northeast of Slovakia is working on activities that would contribute to even greater public interest in this competition. A new app will be available to all amateur photographers during 2021, which will contain tips on photogenic places in the Prešov region.
