After a year, the general public can once again look forward to Day of observatories and planetariums. Its 9th edition promises an attractive programme, with which the county astronomical departments in Prešov, Humenne and Svidník. This time on the theme of Return to the Moon. They will kick off their programme on Saturday 16 March.

The Day of Observatories and Planetariums is organised annually on the occasion of the International Day of Astronomical Institutions. It traditionally includes the Observatory and Planetarium in Prešov, the Vihorlat Observatory in Humenne and the Svidník outreach office Hvezdáreň Roztoky, established by the Prešov Self-Governing Region. The current 9th edition of the event is marked by activities related to the anticipated man on the moon and will take place during the weekend of 16 and 17 March.
Observatory and Planetarium in Prešov
Observatory and Planetarium in Prešov has prepared a programme for children and adults. Vihorlat Observatory in Humenne

Roztoky Observatory
Campus Observatories in Roztoky, which belongs to the county Podduklianske Enlightenment Centre in Svidník, is also going to observe the night sky, both on Saturday and Sunday (16-17 March) from seven to nine o'clock in the evening. In addition, the Sunday programme of the observatory above the Ruthenian village of Roztoky is extended by midday sun sighting, art workshop Moon in the palm of your hand or knowledge mini quiz. Its youngest visitors will enjoy the planetary memory game and film screenings.

The International Observatory and Planetarium Day initiative takes place on the occasion of the vernal equinox. It was founded in Brescia, Italy, back in 1995. It aims to promote the dissemination of astronomical knowledge and inform the public about the work of astronomical facilities. In Slovakia, it is organised under the auspices of the Slovak Astronomical Society at the Slovak Academy of Sciences, the Slovak Central Observatory in Hurbanova and the Slovak Union of Astronomers.
