In the picturesque sub-castle of one of the most iconic castles in Slovakia - [trip:12000;Ľubovňa Castle] was discovered medieval distillery. This important moment confirmed the tradition of distilling in northern Spiš. On the site of the distillery, an impressive restaurant and a castle distillery have been built, which of course continues the tradition of distilling, Castle Distillery.
The origins of the distilling tradition in the sub-castle date back to the period of 1343 years ago, when the town of Stará Ľubovňa was granted tapping right. A wooden distillery, mentioned in documents as early as 1746, stood on this site until the middle of the 18th century. In the middle of the 18th century, the Polish Queen Maria Josephine initiated a complete reconstruction of the castle and a modern stone distillery was built for its time. The centuries-old art of distilling and traditional production methods are still preserved behind the walls of this distillery. At the heart of the castle distillery are the copper distillation columns in which the controlled distillation process takes place. In addition to their quality spirits, the distillery offers the opportunity to burn your own spirit from their fruit.
