Velicke lake, situated at an altitude of 1 665.5 m above sea level, is a moraine lake located in the Velicke valley in the High Tatras.
The lake has an area of 2.22 ha, a width of 90 m, a length of 350 m and a maximum depth of 6 m. Its pool is fed by the Velický brook flowing through the valley stage, on which it forms a cascade with Velický waterfall. Its level fluctuates within a range of about one metre, which is due to a rather high bottom seepage.
A mountain hut was built on the south-western moraine of Velický pleso as early as 1871. After it was destroyed by a snow avalanche, it was replaced by several new buildings. Nowadays, the Sliezsky dom mountain hotel stands on this site.
