Devil's Stone

Devil's Stone (433 m above sea level) is the seventh stop of the Kamjana forestry nature trail and there are also hiking signs leading to it. Under the Devil's Stone it is possible to discover in the terrain traces of the narrow gauge railway from the interwar period, which was used to transport wood from the surrounding forests.

The Secret Legend

Legend has it that there was a monastery in the village of Krásny Brod as early as the 14th century. The monks taught people to do good and not to believe in magic. The striga and the devils ran out of patience, so they decided to drop a huge boulder on the monastery. However, the prayers of the monks, the people and the protection of the Mother of God prevented them from doing so. As the devils approached Krásný Brod with the boulder, the last rooster of Krásný Brod crowed, and the striga did not have time to remove it. The devils were frightened and the boulder slipped out of their hands. It crashed into the woods in the Kamjana area, where it lies to this day with the horrible face of a devil carved on it. It is said that devils from hell can sometimes be heard groaning from beneath it.

About the site

Kamjana is the most famous mountain massif in the area of the upper Laborec and Laborecka Highlands, mainly associated with the town of Medzilaborce. The Kamjana massif, significantly elongated and almost entirely forested with beech trees, begins north of the village of Krásny Brod with a climb to the Kamen (433 m above sea level), which with its distinctive sandstone rock is commonly known as the Devil's Stone.

In this highest part of the ridge there is surface formed by numerous stone boulders and several distinctive rock formations that will delight the eye of many an adventurer.

The mountain ridge then drops abruptly to the north and ends in the southwestern part of the Habura municipality. In Habura, do not miss the majestic statue of Prince Laborec and the wooden Church of St. Nicholas.
