Walk in the surroundings of the village TVAROŽNÁ

Tvarozna probably already existed at the end of the 12th or the beginning of the 13th century. The first written mention of the village dates back to 1268. At that time it was already a developed town whose inhabitants enjoyed quite extensive privileges. Until the 16th century it was called Durand. The new name Tvarožná was first documented in 1572. The village belonged to the community of Spiš towns and enjoyed town rights from 1271. It was governed by the German Saxon law. The invasion of the Hussites, fires and the war between Kežmarok and Levoča had a negative impact on the development of the village. In spite of this, there are several cultural and historical monuments that are worth seeing for visitors who come here. The most important are the Roman Catholic Church of St. Matthias with a bronze baptismal font and Gothic bells, the Evangelical Church of God and the Immaculata - a sandstone column of the Immaculate Virgin Mary. In addition, several townhouses in the centre of the village have been nicely repaired.

Take a nice easy hiking trip to Tvarožná from the village of Vrbov.

Vrbov is known mainly for its thermal pools. There are ten of them in total. But the village is also an urban conservation area. It has been mentioned since 1250. The Church of St. Servatius from the 13th century stands on the small square in the middle of the village. Next to it there is a bell tower and an Immaculata. The bell tower was built in the style of the Spiš Renaissance. Small information boards sufficiently inform about the history of the buildings. Apart from these most important monuments, there are also a number of other historical buildings whose architecture will catch the eye of many visitors.

You can get to Vrbov by bus from Kežmarok by a regular bus service, departure about 8:30h. Upon arrival in Vrbov, get off at the municipal office in the centre of the village. Here you can admire the recently repaired historical monument - a beautiful Renaissance bell tower. Next, follow the green trail to the eastern end of the village, indicated by a signpost in the landscaped park. This is a local marker=square divided crosswise into a green and white triangle. You continue through the Slovak Valley, first through pasture, then under a high tension power line to the edge of the forest. This is the entrance to the western part of the Levoča Mountains. On the forest road, you will see a yellow local sign, which leads to the left to the village of Tvarožná. To the right you reach the signpost Pod Spáleniskom, where there is a crossroads of several signs and directions.

The trail to Tvarožná leads through a pine forest and at its exit you will reach the meadows above Tvarožná. In front of you are nice views of the village of Tvarožná, Ľubica and Kežmarok with a view of the High Tatras. The beaver pond in the nearby stream is also interesting. The sign will lead you to the centre to the municipal office. Here you can relax or even play sports - children on the playground, adults can use outdoor sports equipment. The bus to Kežmarok departs from Tvarožná at 12.30h.
