Mineral springs Salvator and Sultan

Mineral waters were known in the vicinity of Lipovec and Šindliar in the distant past, when they served the local inhabitants as a source of drinking water under the local name Slacvina. According to undocumented sources, in the Middle Ages they were already known to the Templar monks, who resided on one of the hills of the Branisko Mountains. In the second half of the 17th century, the Szinyei-Merse family, who owned Lipovce, established a spa here. The buildings, set on columns, harmonised architecturally with the surroundings of the magnificent park, and were beautified with rich painted ornaments - ciphers. To this day, the entire spa area is called Cifrovaná. The spa was a place for healing, but also for the social life of the upper classes of Šariš. The popularity of the spa gradually declined, mainly due to frequent changes of owners, while the popularity of the mineral water increased. The new owner of Cifrovana became in 1882 Augustín Schultészwhich abandoned the operation of the spa and turned to the mineral water trade.

He started bottling mineral water under the name Salvator (Saviour), which was exported to almost all of Europe, and due to its composition, it even withstood the journey to the USA and Canada. After the nationalisation of the company in 1942, the town of Prešov remained its legal owner and in 1948 it was put under the administration of the municipality of Prešov, together with all the mineral springs. At the beginning of the 20th century, there was also a water bottling plant in Šindliar, from which mineral water expanded under the trade name Sultán.
