The Old Market is considered one of the most beautiful streets in Kežmarok. The foundations of most of the houses date back to the 13th century and in several of them there are signs of the oldest, so-called tower houses.
The Old Market is the original historical core of the town. It is even possible that the name of the Old Market was once borne by the entire urban settlement of later Kežmarok.
At the upper and lower end of the Old Market remained preserved typical Spiš craft houses with hipped roofs and shingles. Unlike the townhouses on the Main Square, the craftsmen's houses on the Old Market were mostly ground-floor.
Among the preserved buildings, the houses number 33 and 47 attract attention - both of them are referred to as the buildings of the first Kežmarok town hall and later as a hospital. House number 46 with a wide frontage was built as the so-called Spiš House for festivals, theatre and concerts. It still serves its purpose today - even today it houses the Municipal Cultural Centre.
