The predatory mountain river Biela voda flows through the Bielovodská valley in the High Tatras, where in the past there was a 14-kilometre-long glacier. In its upper part there are side valleys, in which there are lakes and the 15-metre high Hviezdoslavov waterfall falls from the rocky thresholds.
Access to the Hviezdoslav waterfall is for example from Hrebienok along the red trail around the waterfalls of the Cold Stream and later along the blue trail through the Great Cold Valley to Zbojnícká chata. Then it continues through Prielom past Zamrznutý pleso and Litvorské pleso, still following the blue trail, to the Hviezdoslav waterfall. Another possible access is also from Javorina and Lysá Polana through the Bielovodská valley along the blue trail.
