The village of Vyšný Komárnik was probably founded between 1573 and 1600. In the cadastre there is the Dukla Pass, which played an important strategic role in both world wars in the movement of troops. After the war, the destroyed village was rebuilt and the fallen soldiers were buried in a military cemetery.
During the First World War, especially in the vicinity of Bardejov, there were many dead on the battlefields, which is why in the years of the First World War many settlements grew up in the territory of eastern Slovakia. more than one hundred military cemeteries and burial grounds. In these cemeteries is buried more than 30 000 soldiers.
There are 32 military cemeteries in 16 villages in the strategic Laborec valley. The largest military cemeteries can be found in the villages of Čabina, Krásny Brod, Zbudská Bela and Radvaň nad Laborcom (all in the Medzilaborce district).
