The pride not only of Šariš, but also of the whole Slovakia is the ancient Bardejov, which is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful Slovak cities. It was rightly included in the UNESCO World Natural and Cultural Heritage List in 2000.
The picturesque square with colourful town houses, the majestic Basilica of St. Aegidius, the Jewish suburb, the historic town hall, the executioner's house, the preserved city walls with bastions... A huge number of remarkable monuments are concentrated in a relatively small area. In addition to the most famous places mentioned above, Bardejov and its surroundings offer many other great places worth discovering. For example, also in autumn, when the places are complemented by a unique palette of beautiful colours.

John Lennon in Bardejov
The smallest park and the shortest "street" in Bardejov are dedicated to the personality of John Lennon. Although John Lennon's alley is not an official Bardejov street, it is a popular local attraction that should not be missed while wandering around Bardejov. Adjacent park and house in the centre of Bardejov, behind the Basilica of St. Aegidius, are the work of local Beatles fan Pavel Zajac. On the facade of his family house are three-dimensional prints and forged works of art. In the basement of the house is gallery dedicated to the Beatles and John Lennon. A commemorative event is always held here on 8 December to mark the anniversary of the assassination of the unforgettable musician.

Monastery near Bardejov
The archaeological site of Kláštorisko - Mníchovský potok is a popular tourist stop, located near the main tourist highway Directions SNP - red mark. The Kláštorisko locality lies in the cadastre of the village Zlatné. It is 6.4 km away from the centre of the town of Bardejov in the north-west direction. Archaeologically, the site of Kláštorisko has been explored several times. In 1979, during an archaeological survey, ceramic fragments from the Medieval Times.

Wooden churches
Wooden churches are the most precious jewel of Slovak folk architecture. They are located almost exclusively in the northeast of Slovakia, with the largest number of them - up to 26 - in the region of Upper Šariš.
The oldest wooden church in Slovakia can be found in the Bardejov district - in the village of Hervartov. Church of St. Francis of Assisi from the 15th century is since 2008 included in the list of UNESCO monuments. The exterior of the wooden church has remained almost untouched for centuries. The impressively decorated interior combines several artistic and religious periods.

Several traditional granaries (granaries) are still preserved near the church. You can finish your stay in Hervartov by climbing the lookout tower Beggar.
Other wooden churches in the Bardejov district are Greek-Catholic. You can find them in the villages of Tročany, Krivé, Kožany, Lukov, Frička, Jedlinka and in open-air museum in Bardejov Spa. In the Svidník district tourists are attracted by wooden churches in the villages of Potoky, Šemetkovce, Miroľa, Krajné Čierno, Ladomirova a Thistle (inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List), Príkra, Dobroslava, Nižný Komárnik, Vyšný Komárnik, Medvedie, Hunkovce, Korejovce and the church in the open-air museum in Svidník.

Zborov Castle
Just less than 10 km from Bardejov lies Zborov Castle also called Makovica. The castle was first mentioned in 1347. It was built to defend the Hungarian border area and the trade route to Poland. During the Thököly Uprising in 1684, the castle was destroyed by the imperial troops and the castle ruins were also damaged by fighting during World War I. In 1926, Zborov Castle Hill was declared a nature reserve, which makes it one of thethe oldest protected areas in Slovakia. The ascent to the castle from Zborov or Long Meadow takes about 30 minutes.

A network of interconnected five healing singletracks - Family, Napoleon, Cherry, Hercules and Royal and two connecting cycle routes Oxygen road Mihalov - Bardejov and the Oxygen Track in the spa are very popular throughout the year.

The singletracks have an aligned natural surface and built artificial obstacles - terrain waves, jumps of various sizes, knobby turns and bridges. The longer route of the healing singletracks is 25 km long and the shorter route is 18 km long. There is something for everyone, the individual terrains are suitable for the youngest cyclists and pro-bikers.
