The valley Mengusovská dolina
The national nature reserve Mengusovská dolina (valley), through which the river Poprad flows, offers several hiking opportunities. In the upper part are the basin Hlincová kotlina and the basin Kotlina Žabích plies. The valley Zlomiskova dolina, located in the middle, is known thanks to the picturesque mountain lake Poprad. Above it, the Ostrva peak rises proudly.
The most popular spots of the valley are mountain lakes. The largest and deepest mountain lake of the Slovak High Tatras is Veľké Hincovo pleso (Great Hincovo mountain lake) under the Kôprovský peak at the end of the valley. There are three other mountain lakes in the basin Kotlina Žabích plies: Velké Žabie (Big Frog’s mountain lake), Malé Žabie (Small Frog’s mountain lake) and Vyšné Žabie (Upper Frog’s mountain lake).
The valley Mengusovska dolina is not only a natural heritage site, as in the vicinity of the mountain lake Popradské pleso there is a symbolic cemetery build to commemorate those who lost their lives in the High Tatras.
The beauty of the valley Mengusovská dolina can be enjoyed from the hiking trails. From the mountain lake Štrbské pleso to the mountain lake Popradské pleso leads a nature trail (red tourist mark). The blue-marked nature trail leads from the Tri Studničky through the valley Kôprová dolina and the saddle Vyšné Kôprovské sedlo.
