Gerlach peak (High Tatras)

Gerlach Peak with its height of 2,655 m is the highest peak of the High Tatras and the whole Slovak Republic.

It lies in the south-eastern part of the Rear Gerlachov Peak, from which it is separated by Gerlachov Saddle. Due to its height, availability and beautiful mountain scenery, the Gerlachov Peak is one of the most visited peaks in Slovakia. The starting point of the hike to Gerlachov Peak (2,655 m) is the mountain hotel Sliezsky dom. The route leads around 15 m high Velický waterfall into the terraced valley, which got its name Kvetnica (flower bloom) thanks to its botanical diversity. The ascent is allowed only with mountain guide.

The services of experienced Tatra guides are provided according to the established price list of the Mountain Service of TANAP located in Starý Smokovec. The peak got its name thanks to its location on the former lands of Gerlachov. Climbing the Gerlachov Peak is not technically demanding, but climbers should watch out for many hidden pitfalls, like sudden weather changes. Many tourists have lost their way in poor visibility. This classic Tatra tour has become fatal to some of the daredevils.
