Krivé kostolík

The wooden Greek Catholic Church of St. Luke, Krivé

The Greek Catholic wooden church of St. Luke in the village of Krivé stuns visitors with its beauty. The log church dating from 1826 stands on the site of an older building from 1718, of which only the walls on the sides have been left. The radical renovation destroyed the typical feature of churches of this region – the three towers.

The wooden church in Krivé has a rectangular floor plan with a polygonal shrine, an elongated nave, a vestibule and a square tower.

The interior boasts with a four-panel iconostasis with icons from different time periods. Icons outside the iconostasis are especially interesting. Among the most valuable are the ones painted with tempera on wood from the end of the 16th century - the Mother of God - Hodigitria, the Savior with heavenly forces, Michael the Holy Archangel and the Baptism of Christ in Jordan - which probably were parts of the older temple.

The wooden church in the village of Krivé was renovated between 1965 and 1970. In 2003, the foundations and in 2006 the tower were completely renovated. In 2010, the cladding of the church and the electrical installation underwent massive repairs, too.
