The singing of birds, the noise of trees or the sound of the forest. Nature lovers can look forward to all this thanks to a 4-meter wooden megaphone. When a person sits in it, the sounds of the surrounding nature multiply, soothing the soul of the listener. A unique attraction near Prešov can be found in Slanské vrchy.

The wooden megaphone is located near the bike trail connecting Prešov with the surrounding villages, about one km behind the village of Zlatá Baňa in Temný les (the Dark Forest), around 200 m from the gazebo and the fireplace.

There is no attraction like this in the Central or Western Europe. Only Estonians have a similar one. Four young men from the civic association Hlas lesa (Voice of the Forest) came up with the idea to create it. Their goal is to get more tourists to attractive parts of the forest. The attraction was opened to the public on September 1, 2019.

Sit in the megaphone and absorb the sounds of nature. The huge 2.5-ton structure has the shape of a hexagonal pyramid.

The wooden megaphone lies below the highest peak of the Slanské Mountain - Šimonka.

The national nature reservation Šimonka reaches an altitude of 1,092 meters above sea level. In 1950, the top part (an area of 33.52 hectares) was promoted to a national nature reserve.

This reserve mainly protects the remains of a beech forest. At the top of Šimonka there is a large wooden cross. When the weather is good, you can see the High Tatras and the highest peak of the Low Tatras, Kráľová Hoľa from the top of Šimonka.

HOW TO GET THERE:

The ascent to the top of Šimonka is slightly challenging. The most popular trail leads from the village of Zlatá Baňa along the green tourist mark and further along the yellow tourist mark to the top. The whole trip takes about 3 hours.
